When did you first start knitting and why?
I can’t remember ever not knitting. I know we learned at primary school and my mum taught me at home too. I do remember every year that the stuff we made at school was put into a local agricultural show and I won an award for a hat I’d knitted.
What do you enjoy about the knitting process?
It’s relaxing and it’s probably the only creative thing I can do. It’s nice to be able to make something.
What item that you’ve knitted are you most proud of?
I’m always very pleased to finish large garments. I’ve knitted a few jumpers recently. I knitted a big one for my daughter last year when she was in Russia and I wanted her to have something warm.
Do you have any knitting ambitions?
I haven’t done intarcia. I’d like to have a go at that.
When did you first discover Purl&Jane?
I think not long after it opened. I must have seen a poster or something but I knew it was there and next door there is a model shop where my boys were frequent customers so we could go and please everyone.
What do you like about the shop?
It has such a lovely selection of wool – all the different colours and Jane herself is so helpful – with everything from techniques to helping select colours.
Would you recommend 1. Knitting and 2. The shop to a friend?
