More information about the January Retreat – The 3 Rs
Friday 11th to Monday 14th January

I call the January Purl&Jane retreat weekend ‘the three Rs’ – a relaxing and restoring retreat!

The weekend will follow the same format as a Purl &Jane workshop retreat but without the teaching. We will meet in the converted Victorian woollen mill in the morning for a relaxed and informal knitting session, have lunch and then afternoons will be free for you to choose what you’d like to do. You could join me in the mill to knit some more, go back to your old mill workers’ cottages or explore the area by car or by foot: the choice is yours!

The mornings will be dedicated to knitting together. There will be no formal teaching and you can choose to bring your own project or knit the accessory project supplied for everyone but I’ll be there to help, answer any questions or help with techniques that need finessing. When knitters get together, we always learn from each other so you’re bound to learn some new techniques!

Please note this is *not* a retreat where you’ll learn something new from scratch. If that’s what you’re looking for, look no further than my other retreats with workshops included. This is purely a relaxing retreat after the chaos of Christmas, whether you’ve partied too hard over Christmas and need some quiet space or because Christmas is something you don’t really enjoy and you want something to look forward to once it’s over.

As my belated Christmas gift to you for joining me on my retreat, I will design an exclusive new pattern for an accessory which you can choose to knit with me during the weekend or knit when you return home to hold onto the feeling of relaxation from the retreat for a bit longer.

The mill workers’ cottages vary in their layout. One of the cottages has been rebuilt to the same specs as the original one but with modern touches whereas the terraced mill workers’ cottages are very quirky and cute with little steps and stairs up into each of the rooms with the twin rooms in the attic. They are all cosy, comfortable and clean and equipped with everything you would expect to find in a modern home: you’ll find a microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, electric hob, oven and showers in all houses.

The rooms are all available for single occupancy however after the first retreat I thought it would be good to show you the rooms available in each house so if you and your friends would like to book rooms together in the same house, that is easy to do so you can prepare your evening meals and eat together or knit together.

The houses are self catering houses. When you arrive, you’ll find a welcome pack of milk, orange juice, bread, butter, cereals and biscuits for your first morning and a home-cooked lunch is available on the Saturday and Sunday. What you do for the rest of the meals is your choice. You can bring food with you to cook in the kitchens for supper and breakfasts; or pick up something from the local Co-op or one of the supermarkets in a town outside Cullingworth as you drive to the mill; order something from one of the local takeaways to be delivered to your weekend home; or make the two-minute drive to the local pub or venture slightly further afield to the nearby towns to enjoy a meal out.

Take a step away from the world…

What can you expect from a Purl &Jane Relaxing Retreat?

A Purl &Jane retreat is to help you relax and take a moment away from the world with just the soothing stitch and over the weekend any frustrations and stress will dissolve away into joy and laugther.
Like my Sunday morning workshops, this retreat will be held with a gentle and calm teaching style as over the years, I have learnt that everyone has their own unique learning style. And, this is true to my belief that no matter how long you’ve been knitting, there’s always something new to learn, even if that is learning that other people knit like you!

These retreats are new to Purl &Jane – however I have led lots of workshops and a retreat or two over the years. I was invited by a Canadian yarn store to be the teacher on a Rockies Mountain Retreat back in the days before I had my own design studio. That was a magical experience that made me dream of the day I could share that relaxing experience with knitters in Yorkshire.
I’ve been teaching workshops for nearly 20 years all over the world – from Canadato the USA to local yarn stores all over the UK to the flagship John Lewis store onOxford Street, London to the present with workshops in my studio.

This retreat is for knitters who can cast on, knit, purl and cast off and are willing tolearn and knit in a relaxed and calm atmosphere. The retreat will be very informal, after the two mornings in the old mill which will be the most structured part – the afternoons are free to do whatever you wish. I will be at the mill in the afternoons where we can all sit and knit with our own projects (whether that’s one you bring or there will be a chance to purchase a new project at the mill) or you can explore the area.

This is truly a relaxing retreat to share the joy of a soothing stitch. There isn’t a end to knitting but there is a beginning…and I love helping people start on their journey and guiding them as they grow.
